- 1968 - Retired ABL and WNBA star Edna Campbell (right), acclaimed for her comeback after a battle with breast cancer, is born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- 1969 - Former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp is born in Elkhart, Indiana.
- 1975 - China, playing in its first FIBA Asia Championship for Men, wins the gold medal, going undefeated in medal round play. Since then, China has won 13 of 15 Asian Championships.
- 1994 - During a 101-87 victory over Golden State at Gund Arena, the Cleveland Cavaliers set an NBA record by attempting just two free throws the entire game.
