- 1932 - Frank Selvy, the only man to score 100 points in an NCAA Division I game, is born in Corbin, Kentucky.
- 1946 - The legendary center George Mikan (above) makes his professional basketball debut with the Chicago American Gears of the National Basketball League. The Gears lose to the Oshkosh All-Stars, 66-61. Mikan was the first dominant big man in the NBA and quickly became the most visible star in pro basketball.
- 1989 - The Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Seattle SuperSonics, 155-154, in five overtime periods. It is the longest NBA game since the advent of the 24-second shot clock in 1954. Seattleās Dale Ellis sets an NBA record by playing 69 of the 73 minutes.
- 1993 - Minnesota's Micheal Williams finally misses a charity shot, ending his NBA record-setting consecutive free throw streak at 97.
- 1995 - The Chicago Bulls defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 106-88, to earn the first of an eventual NBA-record 33 road victories in one season.
- 2007 - Two Chinese giants meet in the NBA for the first time. Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets emerge triumphant, vanquishing Yi Jianlian and the Milwaukee Bucks, 104-88. An estimated 150-250 million Chinese fans watch the live television broadcast of the beginning of their NBA rivalry.
