Paul Shirley

Paul Shirley is former professional basketball player in the NBA and is often used as a back-up or emergency reserve player. He plays the power forward position. He has played for the Atlanta Hawks (2002-03), Chicago Bulls (2003-04) and Phoenix Suns (2004-05).

Shirley graduated from Iowa State University, where he majored in mechanical engineering and was named to the all-Big 12 first team twice.

Despite his lack of play time Shirley is well-known for his outspoken comments on the NBA which comes from sitting on the bench. Some of his comments include:

  • he and Kirk Hinrich are "the whitest players in the NBA"
  • he wouldn't be surprised if the Suns "get kicked out of the league" and
  • "referees bet on the NBA games".

He is a free agent.
