The fifth grade boys basketball team at St. Anthony's School in San Francisco went to the CYO Championships in 2007. This was the first time a fifth grade team made it that far. The boys started their winning streak by beating all teams in the 5th division. They went to the playoffs, playing 2 games in a row and winning both. They went on the play West Portal School in the championships at Mission Dolores. The game went all four quarters being tied until the last minute of the game. West Portal came ahead by one point at 15 to 14. D'Angelo #50 got fouled and called to the free throw line. At this point he had a chance to tie the game. He missed the first shot, but made the second, tying the game at 15 to 15...... The game was the best championship in that CYO has had. Warren being the MVP 2 years in a row, gave one of his best performances, bringing the ball down the court with a quickness that the other team could not keep up with. Abdil, one of the defensive players could always be counted on to steal the ball when it was needed. Thomas, one of the teams most aggressive players was feared by the other team for his quickness and ability to take the ball right out of their hands. Tory, our three point hero was hot, hitting the basket from all angles of the court. Valentin, our center, blocked all shots while bring the ball in for a basket every time he got the ball. Elijah, our second most aggressive player, was able to make the other team turn over the ball when it was needed the most. Jordan, our point guard was counting on to make the calls and drive the ball down center to the basket. And lets not forget D'Angelo, one of the best defensive players, stayed on the players long enough for them to just turn the ball over, not letting anyone get pass him.
All can not be forgotten about the coaches, Coach Tim (D'Angelo's dad) & Coach Josh (Valentin's Uncle).... their knowledge of the game and dedication to the boys is what lead them to the top.....
This team has earned it's spot in the top 5 for their 6th grade year. Now keep up the good work and play hard.....
Now, remember our motto "WE FLY HIGH, NO LIE, YOU KNOW THIS, DOLPHINS.....
