Southern Methodist University (also known as SMU) is a nationally recognized, private, coeducational university in University Park, Texas, (an enclave of Dallas). Founded in 1911 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, SMU currently operates campuses in Dallas, Plano, and Taos, New Mexico. SMU is owned by the South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.

Men's Basketball

On April 23, 2006, Southern Methodist hired men's basketball coach Matt Doherty. In 2001, while coaching at the University of North Carolina, Doherty was named "Coach of the Year" by the Associated Press.
