- 1901 - Basketball Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp, who won 874 games at the University of Kentucky, is born in Halstead, Kansas.
- 1948 - Hall of Fame guard and Streetball legend Nate "Tiny" Archibald is born in New York City. He is the only player to lead the NBA in scoring and assists in the same season.
- 1987 - Part of the Phoenix Suns drug scandal, Grant Gondrezick pleaded guilty to witness tampering in exchange for the dismissal of felony drug charges. Gondrezick was fined $100 and placed on three years' probation.
