  • 1988 - Yugoslavia's men's and women's teams make it to the gold medal games at the Seoul Olympics, but both have to settle for the silver. The Soviet men defeat the Yugoslavian men, 76-63, to win the gold medal. The Soviets are led by 7'3" center Arvydas Sabonis (right), who scored 20 and pulled down 11 rebounds in the medal game. The US Women turn back a tenacious Yugoslavian team, 77-70, to take the gold. Katrina McClain leads the team, averaging 17.6 ppg and 10.4 rpg.
  • 1993 - The NBA awards an expansion franchise to Toronto, Canada. The team will eventually be known as the "Raptors."
