Toyota Sports Center
From Hoopedia
On April 28, 1999, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Sparks and the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings officially “broke ground” on the new $24 million Toyota Sports Center.
Located at 555 N. Nash Street in El Segundo, the sports center is built on a six-acre site which is part of the new Grand Avenue Corporate Center. The sports center includes a basketball court, a pro shop, two public ice rinks and outdoor in-line skating rink, a restaurant and an interactive game studio as well as locker rooms, training facilities and office spaces for Lakers, D-Fenders, Sparks and Kings.
The state-of-the-art training facilities at the disposal of the teams and support staff include a weight room that boasts over 10,000 pounds of equipment. The York performance series equipment is specifically designed and customized for use by larger athletes.
Also contained within the weight room are Olympic lifting platforms, the latest balance training equipment and a vast array of cardiovascular equipment. The Lakers/D-Fenders basketball court boasts a plyometric area, the first of its kind built into the basketball floor to help enhance the jumping ability and explosiveness of team members.
Other amenities of the sports center include a therapy pool for the rehabilitation of injuries as well as cardiovascular exercise, a steam room, a nutrition and supplement station and a 19-seat theater-style viewing room which the players and coaching staff use to watch video and conduct meetings.
Designed by the Drezner group of Los Angeles, the facility became the home of the Lakers players and staff in February of 2000.
