The "Cage" at the Trenton Masonic Temple

The Trenton Masonic Temple was the host for the first professional basketball game, on November 7, 1896, when the Trentons beat the visiting Brooklyn YMCA team, 16-1. The Temple's third-floor banquet hall was converted into a basketball court for the occasion. It was the first venue to use a "cage," which surrounded the playing area.
