Wilbur Cross High School (CT)
From Hoopedia
Wilbur Cross High School is a public high school located in New Haven, Connecticut. The school has a long and rich tradition of athletics, particularly in basketball. The school has continued the same tradition set fourth in New Haven by people like Maurice Podoloff, the first commissioner of the NBA, who came out of New Haven as well as "Super" John Williamson, an All-American at New Mexico State whose jersey, No. 23, was recently retired by the New Jersey Nets.
In the 1960's, New Haven basketball was dominated by Wilbur Cross or its New Haven neighbor, Hillhouse High School. The two teams won every state title but one throughout the decade.
Cross appeared in the 2007 Southern Connecticut Conference championship against Hillhouse. Then later in the state tourney faced Torrington.
The school boasts many talented and successful alumni, including the nation's leading scorer for the 1981-82 season, Earl Kelly.
