Willard Lyon
From Hoopedia
David Willard Lyon (来会理) (b. 1863 - d. March 16, 1943) was an American missionary in China in the late 19th century. He was one of the first Director-General of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in China (中華基督教男青年會) and Korea and helped to establish the game of basketball in both countries.
On December 5, 1895, Lyon presided over the first game of basketball played in China, at the Tianjin (then called Tientsin) YMCA, although some sources cite the date December 11. The Nankai Five Tigers (名扬天下) team trained there, too.
