William Avery

William Avery (born August 8, 1979 in Augusta, Georgia) is an American professional basketball player, currently playing in the Turkish basketball league for Galatasaray Café Crown.

Avery, a 6' 2" point guard from Duke University, was selected 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1999 NBA Draft after his sophomore year, when he (along with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette) became one of the first players under Mike Krzyzewski to leave Duke before graduating. He was considered a draft bust, never having lived up to expectations. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.4 assists in 142 games over three seasons for the Timberwolves.

He was not signed by an NBA team when his 3-year contract expired in 2002, and since then, Avery has also played with Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem (Israel), Azovmash Mariupol (Ukraine),Panionios Athens (Greece), and ALBA Berlin (Germany).
