Women’s National Invitational Championship

The inaugural Pre Season and Post Season Women’s National Invitational Championship (WNIC) will be played from November 16-18, 2007 and March 24-31, 2008. Both tournaments will have a 32 team field. The pre-season event will tip off with the a field that will feature perennial power North Carolina as the host institution, along with Syracuse and Coppin State.

This will be invitation-only for all the 32 conferences that represent NCAA Division I institutions. The tournament format will bring the programs to the Tampa Bay area, Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL will host the event. The first round will start with 16 teams on Monday and Tuesday, Second Round on Wednesday and Thursday. The final 8 teams will play for the championship on Friday, Saturday, with finals on Sunday.

The Post Season WNIC, which will feature 32 teams that are not in the NCAA Division I Women's Tournament and Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) field in 2008. The new Post Season event has been created to rival the WNIT, and it will secure an important opportunity for more programs to receive maximum exposure. When the WNIC begins play, approximately 144 Division I programs will be enjoying the Post Season.

The Post Season WNIC, will include Live Internet coverage for all games, was created to give outstanding teams an opportunity to compete in a quality post-season event. The National Invitational Championship will give teams that opportunity in a tremendous environment.

Over the past decade, no company has shown a greater passion for the game of women’s basketball than Michael T. White Inc. After building his foundation with marketing at the grassroots level, White is now branching out into the collegiate game.

The Post Season WNIC will be a single-elimination tournament, with all games played in St. Petersburg, Florida. The tourney field will be announced in March of 2008.

The Post Season field will be set following extensive research that will begin in January of 2008, when each Division I program that has post season potential will be reviewed. Every effort will be made to complete the most competitive field possible.

The WNIC will separate itself from other events by performing in-depth research of programs outside the “major” conferences. In particular, the WNIC will invite any program that wins its conference’s regular season title (even if it fails to win the conference tournament).
