Ömer Faruk Aşık (born July 4, 1986, in Bursa, Turkey) is a Turkish professional basketball player who plays at Center in the NBA for the Houston Rockets.
Euroleague
Ömer made his debut for Fenerbahçe Ülker playing the Real Madrid Baloncesto in a Euroleague match with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
He is known for his amazing shot-blocking ability. He has set a new Euroleague Top 16 record for blocked shots with 19 total. The only other player to surpass 15 blocks in the round was Robertas Javtokas of Lietuvos Rytas in 2005-06.
NBA
Aşık was selected in the second round (36th overall) in the NBA Draft 2008 by the Portland Trail Blazers. His draft rights were then traded to the Chicago Bulls for Sonny Weems and future draft picks.
