A summary of major championships and events in basketball in 1891

Basketball is invented.

Dr. James Naismith, at the direction of Dr. Luther Gulick, developed a new indoor game for a physical education class. Naismith wrote the the original 13 rules and on December 21, 1891 the his students played the entire class period and finished the game with a 1-0 score. William R. Chase scored the only basket for the First Team.
