The AAU Women's National Basketball Tournament had two phases to its history, the first from 1926 to 1969, and the second from 1970 to 2008.
The first phase represented much of the history the tournament when the teams played a six-person half-court game, which was wildly popular during the 1930s through the 1950s, and began going into decline in the 1960s. For information on this tournament see:
