Organized basketball can be found for all skill levels and age groups across the United States. Schools, churches, park districts, recreation associations, clubs, businesses, YMCAs, and other organizations sponsor basketball teams and leagues to develop athletic skills, to provide an outlet for energy, to give people an excuse to get together, or just for the fun of it. A notable recreational basketball program that developed in the last few decades are midnight leagues.
