William Mervin (Billy) McKinney III (born June 5, 1955, in Waukegan, Illinois, USA) is an American former professional basketball player and former radio broadcaster. He played 7 seasons in the NBA.

High School and College
A 6'0" guard, McKinney attended Zion-Benton High School, located in Zion, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. He attended college at Northwestern University, earning a degree in education.
NBA
McKinney was selected in the sixth round (115th pick overall) of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He did not play a game for the Suns. Instead, he played his debut season with the Kansas City Kings. He later played with the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, San Diego Clippers, and the Chicago Bulls. He played a total of 476 games in the NBA, scoring 3,823 points. While in the National Basketball Association, McKinney he wore a medallion inscribed with the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “They can conquer who believe they can.”
Later Life
McKinney later served as Assistant Vice President of Basketball Operations (Chicago Bulls), Director of Player Personnel (Minnesota Timberwolves), Vice President of Basketball Operations (Detroit Pistons), Executive Vice President of the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA's Seattle Storm. In his previous position he was the radio color analyst for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. In June of 2008, McKinney was hired as the Milwaukee Bucks director of scouting.
