Chris Andersen (born July 7, 1978, in Long Beach, California) is an American professional basketball player at Center in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets. The 6 ft 10 in, 228 lb center/power forward received a two year ban from the NBA in the year 2006 for violating the league's drug policy, but was reinstated on March 4, 2008 and re-signed by the Hornets the next day. His nickname is Birdman.

Early Life
Andersen grew up in an orphanage in Denton (Iola), Texas and played one year at Blinn College after dropping out of the University of Houston.
Professional Career
He went undrafted in the 1999 NBA Draft and began his professional career in the CBL. The first NBA team Andersen played for was the Denver Nuggets in 2001-2002. After the 2003-2004 season he was released and signed as a free agent by the New Orleans Hornets. On January 25, 2006, Andersen was giving a 2 year ban from the NBA for violating the NBA's drug policy. In 2008, he was reinstated. He was re-signed by the Hornets th next day. He played in five games for the Hornets, averaging 1.2 ppg and 1.8 rpg in 6.8 mpg. On July 24, 2008, he signed a one-year contract with the Denver Nuggets. He is currently in his 7th year in the NBA.
Andersen took part in NBA Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in 2004 and 2005. Infamously, he missed his first eight attempts on his first dunk and his first five attempts on his second in 2005.
He is also renowned for his outstanding shot-blocking ability, often making the highlight reel with his athletic style of defense.
