Emil Liston

Emil S. Liston (born August 21, 1890 in Stockton, Missouri, died October 26, 1949) was a basketball coach and administrator.

He coached the Baker University (Kansas) basketball team from 1930 to 1945. He was a founder of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and also the creator of the NAIA college basketball tournament and a close friend of Dr. James Naismith.

The prestigious Emil S. Liston Award is given annually to NAIA male and female basketball junior players.

He was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1975.
