Recently signing with the Townsville Crocodiles of Australia for the upcoming NBL season, Galen Young has had a career filled with both great success and near-great success. Born October 16, 1975 in Memphis, Tennessee, the 6'6", 220-lb. forward, who handles the ball so well he currently plays guard, signed with the Sun Kings on November 17, 2006. This is Young’s fourth season in the league; Young, a graduate of UNC-Charlotte (1999), previously played in the CBA with the Grand Rapids Hoops (1999-00), and the Gary Steelheads (2002-04). Young was a second-round draft pick (48th pick overall) of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1999 NBA draft. A long, adventurous list of awards, achievements, and placements follows Young, including: several appearances in the CBA All-Star game (2004, 2007); a variety of MVP Tournament awards; a number of seasons playing abroad (including Japan, Italy, and Spain); and perhaps, most notably to non-basketball players and fans, a season with the North Charleston Lowgators (2001-2002), during which Young and the rest of the team became reality TV stars on ESPN’s documentary reality series, “Down Low: Life in the D-League,” a show which captured the reality of life in the NBA Development League. He also played in the Philippine Basketball Association as an import, first with the Alaska Aces and now with the San Miguel Beermen.
