Gregory Wayne Oden, Jr. (born on January 22, 1988) is an American professional basketball Center who is currently as a Free agent. Oden played for Portland Trail Blazers from 2007-2012 after being drafted in 2007. Oden was a member of the 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes.
Oden grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, but relocated to Marion County, Indiana, in the eighth grade. He attended Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, where he, along with current Ohio State teammate Mike Conley Jr., won three straight Indiana state titles, while winning 45 consecutive games under coach Jack Keefer. Oden was named Parade Magazine High School Co-Player of the Year 2005 (along with Monta Ellis) and 2005 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, becoming the first junior since LeBron James to be so honored. In 2006 Oden was again named Parade Magazine High School Player of the Year and Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2006. He is often compared to NBA stars Tim Duncan and David Robinson in body size and mechanics. Oden is noted for his quiet and humble demeanor.

High School
In the 2005-06 season, Oden, a 7'0" 280 lbs. (2.14 m, 126 kg) senior, led Lawrence North to an undefeated record, a third straight Class 4A Indiana state championship and the first ever top finish for an Indiana school in USA Today's Super 25 rankings. For the season, the center scored 22.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 74 percent from the field. Oden dominated in the state championship game against Muncie Central, scoring a game-high 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Lawrence North won its three state championship games by a combined 56 points; its average margin of victory during the regular season was 21 points. Oden was also on the McDonald's All-America Team and played in the McDonald's All-America game.
In 2006, he was added to the roster for the USA Men's National Basketball Team. Oden has been invited to join the 2008 US Olympic basketball team. Yahoo! NBA analyst Steve Kerr described Oden as a "once-in-a-decade player."
College Career
Oden was chosen Big Ten Player of the Week, along with Wisconsin's Alando Tucker, on January 29, 2007. In the previous week he had averaged 18 points and 11.5 rebounds. On March 6, 2007, Oden was named First Team All-Big Ten as well being voted the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Oden fouled out for the first time in his college career against Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tournament and was bothered by foul trouble in several tournament games. In the Sweet Sixteen, Oden blocked a potential game-winning shot in the final seconds against Tennessee to preserve a 85-84 victory, and went on to lead Ohio State past Memphis and Georgetown to advance to the 2007 National Championship game. In the title game, Oden dominated more than any other player, scoring 25 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and blocking four shots in a losing effort against the Florida Gators.
In 2007, Oden, along with Kevin Durant, Arron Afflalo, Alando Tucker, and Acie Law IV were named to the Associated Press All-American Team. Oden and Durant are the first freshman voted to the All-American First Team since 1990 and the third and fourth overall. Oden was also named to the Wooden All-America Team.
NBA
On April 20, 2007, Oden announced that he would be entering the 2007 NBA Draft. On June 28, 2007, he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the #1 overall pick. Two of his Ohio State teammates were also chosen in the first round: Mike Conley, Jr. at #4, and Daequan Cook at #21.
To begin his Trail Blazers career, Oden chose the uniform number 52. On July 1, before his first NBA practice, Oden was signed to a contract which provided for two guaranteed seasons and team options for third and fourth seasons.

Oden's progress was recorded on the Trail Blazers' website and his blog.
Although picked first overall in the 2007 NBA Draft, Oden was classified as a rookie for the 2008–09 season because of the knee injury. Entering the 2008–09 season he was listed at 250 lb (110 kg), but according to Blazers' trainer Jay Jensen he weighed about 290 lb (130 kg) in July. Oden left the game after playing thirteen minutes in his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Lakers with a foot injury after being held scoreless. He returned after missing two weeks on November 12, 2008, and scored his first NBA points in the first quarter against the Miami Heat. On January 19, 2009, Oden went for a career-high 24 points while also grabbing 15 rebounds in a 102–85 win against the Milwaukee Bucks. On February 13, 2009, he injured his left knee in a game against the Golden State Warriors, by bumping knees with opponent Corey Maggette, and missed three weeks due to a chipped knee cap.
On November 23, 2009, Oden matched his career-high for points in a game again with 24. He set a new career-high for rebounds in a game with 20 on December 1.
On December 5, 2009, Oden injured his left knee in the first quarter of a game. He was taken off the court on a stretcher. Later, he underwent surgery for a fractured left patella and missed the rest of the season. This injury marked the second time Oden had missed major playing time due to injury. The Blazer fans chanted "ODEN, ODEN," as he was taken off the court.

Talents: Oden is an above average shot blocker. He is a very fast big man and runs like a deer but he lacks quickness. His offensive game has yet to come. He disappears if he gets the ball beyond 17 feet. Has no 3 point range whatsoever. Just an average free throw shooter. He has amazing size and hand size. Can dunk it but not that well in traffic. Needs to bulk up.
Career:
07-08: Drafted first overall. Played sparringly in a few summer league games and fouled out in one, missed the rest of the year with knee surgery
