Jason Jeffrey Collier (September 8, 1977 – October 15, 2005) was an American professional basketball player who played at Center. He attended high school at Catholic Central High School, in Springfield, Ohio. After transferring from the Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, he attended college at Georgia Institute of Technology. Collier was selected by the National Basketball Association's Milwaukee Bucks. However, the same day he was traded to the Houston Rockets. After three years with the Rockets, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He played with the Hawks until his tragic death on October 15, 2005, in Cumming, Georgia. At death, the seven foot tall center Collier weighed 250 pounds. He was the first active NBA player to die since Malik Sealy on May 20, 2000.

High School
Collier led Catholic Central High School of his hometown Springfield, Ohio to the 1996 Ohio State Basketball Championship.
College
Collier attended college at Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana from 1996 to 1998. He earned honorable mention All-Big 10 honors after averaging 9.4 points as a freshman. In two seasons at Indiana, he averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds. In 1998, he transfered to Georgia Institute of Technology. His production picked up in both categories in his final two seasons at Tech, averaging 17.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in 55 games with the Yellow Jackets. Collier earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team honors as a junior and senior at Georgia Tech. In 97 college games, Collier scored 13.9 points and grabbed 7.1 rebounds (.458 FG%, .711 FT%).
NBA
Coller was selected in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He was traded on draft day to the Houston Rockets in exchange for their pick, Joel Przybilla. He spent his first three seasons with Houston, appearing in 61 games and scoring 3.5 ppg and grabbing 2.4 rpg (.421 FG%, .741 FT%). He participated in the 2003 training camp of the Minnesota Timberwolves, then joined the National Basketball Development League's (NBDL) Fayetteville Patriots where he played 30 games. After signing the first 10-day contract with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks on March 8, Collier was signed for the rest of the season on March 28.
Death
During the NBA off-season, Collier died suddenly at the age of only 28 on October 15, 2005 in Cumming, Georgia. His autopsy indicated that he died because of a "sudden heart rhythm disturbance caused by an abnormally enlarged heart". It was reported that he experienced shortness of breath before losing consciousness. Medical treatment was performed by emergency medical technicians, but Collier died en route to the hospital.
His jersey #40 was retired by the Atlanta Hawks on December 2, 2005.
