Arizona Decommit Controversy

After verbally committing to the University of Arizona basketball team early in his high school career Jerryd Bayless withdrew his commitment in June 2006. During the summer of 2006 Bayless was heavily recruited by both Texas (The University of Texas at Austin) and the University of Washington, whose head coach Lorenzo Romar was also coaching the USA U18 team of which Bayless was apart. On August 17 2006 Bayless's high school coach sent out a press release stating that in fact Bayless was going to recommit to Arizona. Bayless did sign a letter of intent to go to Arizona on November 8th 2006 and is currently freshman there. The controversy of these actions arose as many University of Arizona fans felt that Bayless had decommited for the purpose of increased media attention and felt that University of Arizona should withdraw Bayless's scholarship offer.

He Also went to a small highschool in Central Phoenix named St. Mary's. where he led them to 4 play-off apperences and twice to the state championship game. Both lost.
