Jim Brewer (born December 3, 1951, in Maywood, Illinois) is a former professional basketball player.

He was the first notable basketball player to come out of the legendary Proviso East High School (IL) basketball program. In 1969, the tall center was the key player in leading Proviso East to its first state title. He scored 56 points and grabbed 40 rebounds in the four games of the title series.

Upon graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota where he starred on the team. He was a member of the US national team that played in the 1972 Olympics.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1973 NBA draft, and played nine seasons, retiring from the NBA in 1982.

He went to Europe, where he played with Pallacanestro Cantù in the Italian Serie A (the premier league), along with players as Pierluigi Marzorati and Antonello Riva with coach Giancarlo Primo. He won a Euroleague title and an Intercontinental Cup.

The basketball tradition that Brewer launched at Proviso East produced three more state titles and such future NBA players as Glenn Doc Rivers, Michael Finley, Daniel "Dee" Brown, and Shannon Brown. Brewer is an uncle to Doc Rivers.
