- 1943 - Princeton star and New York Knick Hall of Famer, Senator Bill Bradley is born in Crystal City, Missouri.
- 1972 - San Diego needs two pro basketball teams? Apparently lots of smart people thought so in 1972. On same day the American Basketball Association announces that San Diego will receive a franchise (which shall be called the Conquistadors; see above) and the NBA's Buffalo Braves relocate to San Diego and are renamed the San Diego Clippers.
- 1977 - Manu Ginobili, NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist, is born in BahÃa Blanca, Argentina.
- 2010 - Memphis star and Cleveland Cavalier Lorenzen Wright is found dead in found dead just outside of Memphis.
