- 1937 - Rudy LaRusso, who led Dartmouth College to two Ivy League championships and was named an NBA All-Star five-times, is born in Brooklyn, New York.
- 1978 - Hall of Famer Bennie Borgmann, who led the American Basketball League in scoring four times (often averaging more than ten points per game!), passes away at age 79.
- 1988 - The University of Dallas beats John Brown University, 76-68, snapping an NCAA record 86-game losing streak.
- 1993 - The NBA Board of Governors votes to adopt a modified NBA Draft Lottery system that increased the chances of the teams with the worst records in the league of winning one of the first three picks in the NBA Draft.
- 1996 - (Right) The film Space Jam has its world premiere in Hollywood. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Bugs Bunny all put in an appearance.
