Pick And Roll
From Hoopedia
The pick and roll is one of the oldest and most-common run plays in basketball. It is usually run with a big man (forward/center) and a guard. The guard starts with the ball, and the big man sets a screen on the guards defender. The guard gets open by running off of the screen. As the guard passes by his shoulder, the big man pivots his body so he is facing the guard, simultaneously pinning the defender he screened so he is out of the play. This creates a two-on-one - the guard and big man on offense, and the big man's defender on defense. The guard can either shoot, drive to the basket, or pass to the big man.
John Stockton and Karl Malone are famous for running this play during their long tenure with the Utah Jazz in the 1980's and 1990's. Both players were selected as two of the 50 greatest players of all time.
