  • 1988 - Yugoslavia's men's and women's teams make it to the gold medal games at the Seoul Olympics, but both have to settle for the silver. The Soviet men defeat Yugoslavia's men, 76-63, to win the gold medal. The Soviets are led by 7'3" center Arvydas Sabonis (right), who scores 20 and pulls down 11 rebounds. The US Women turn back a tenacious Yugoslavian team, 77-70, to take the gold. Katrina McClain leads the team, averaging 17.6 ppg and 10.4 rpg.
  • 1993 - The NBA awards an expansion franchise to Toronto, Canada. The team will eventually be known as the "Raptors."
