1946 - Seven-time NBA All-Star Jo Jo White is born in St. Louis, Missouri.
1957 - Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics snares 32 rebounds in one half in a 111-89 Celtics’ home victory over Philadelphia. Russell’s one half total is an NBA record and he finished the game with 49. Later in his career, Russell grabbed 51 rebounds in a game against Syracuse, on February 5, 1960. Only Wilt Chamberlain ever grabbed more rebounds in a game, with 55.
1989 - Roy Tarpley of the Dallas Mavericks is suspended in the middle of the 1988-89 campaign for 49 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. It would be the first of several suspensions and bans.
