The Spirit of Basketball is a children's book co-authored by WNBA star Ruth Riley that uses the game of basketball to teach a lesson of unity. This book shows that the language and spirit of the sport of basketball is the same all over the world. Maria, the main character in the story, learns that no matter where you experience basketball --- at a Detroit Shock game, in Russia, in Spain or in Beijing, China --- we all share the love for the essence of the game.

The book is written by Riley and Paul Hickey and illustrated by Christopher Hiller.
