All the more to keep it, and all the more to describe what it is, since I didn't know and most all the viewers might not know as well.
Some of the pictures I recently posted are not appearing on my computers. Is the same thing happening to you? Do you know what this is? CHRIS 17:12, 9 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
This is a system's problem, and nothing we can do. I found around two months ago when I tried putting photos up they would appear, but then the next time I looked at the article it would either be a black image or the error red X blank. Most often moving in and out of the page would somehow "fire" the photo up, but not always. These were a bunch of YMCA articles. Then for some strange reason about a month ago the pages firmed up and the photos stayed. Right now, in one of my more recent articles, Wabash Avenue YMCA (thanks for the correction on name), the photos are still not firm. I am waiting for them to firm up. Give your articles a little time, if after two months the photos still don't appear, delete and try anew.
I just played around with the Gist article, going in and out, and it appeared after about five or six times. Like I said this my stablize after a month.
I fail to understand why NBA Draft years are put after the words "NBA Draft". Shouldn't they be before "NBA Draft" to read (for example) "2009 NBA Draft"? CHRIS 11:51, 14 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
My view is that the subject of the article is NBA Draft, and the year modifies it. The year is not the subject, and thus I would prefer that NBA Draft comes first followed by the year.
2009 NBA Draft
Now that it is the off season and the 2009 NBA Draft is done, fans want to see who their team got. They also want to learn about them before they see them play on the court. So right now, I think Hoopedia is going to get more attention then ever. So, could you help me create and edit the pages for the draft picks? Thanks. CHRIS 11:21, 16 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
I'm afraid not. Contemporary basketball is not a real interest with me. But thank you for thinking I would be a good person to work on the draft picks. Besides you would do a great job by your lonesome.
It turns out Hoosierhistorian was a part-time NBA staffer who helped to put together the original Hoopedia by seeding it with a lot of content. The idea was to kickstart the process by filling it with stuff so that it was of value to the fans. He's no longer on staff.
Well, he did a great job in kickstarting Hoopedia and getting content on it. For that we owe a great debt of thanks. Why he lost interest in continuing with it is still a mystery to me. He seemed to be so genuinely interested in basketball history.
Do you think I should create a page for Devin Harris' miracle half court shot against the Philadelphia 76ers on February 23, 2009? It was (and still is) a quite notable event, probably due to the fact that they won the game with it. Even though it happened about five months ago I STILL hear people talking about it. I was at the game when it happened. I was also sitting next to the 76ers tunnel so I got to see and hear players reactions. I even have some pictures of the shot. CHRIS 11:51, 23 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
I don't see why not. Such shots become iconic part of basketball history. Try to find some categories to put it under, such as NBA History.
What should the article be called? CHRIS 12:26, 23 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Your descriptor sounds apt--Devlin Harris's Miracle Half Court Shot. You should mention this in your Buzzer Beater article (I think that is what the article is called).
Devin Harris's Miracle Half Court Shot
Excellent...need a few links though
The Devin Harris Shot Picture
It should be better now. CHRIS 21:56, 23 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Still see a black photo.
The picture is fine for me. Did you try bouncing in and out with the picture? CHRIS 13:30, 24 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Perhaps it is a difference in browsers. I am using Internet Explorer.
I am using Internet Explorer also. Could it be a network problem? CHRIS 14:23, 24 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
I am, alas, not a techy, so who knows...
This is just a star that goes on your user page. It's not a pin. CHRIS 14:03, 26 July 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
I was just funning a bit.
Really Early Draft Records and Ossie Schectman
If you have noticed, I have been doing work on drafts from 1947-1956. Since you have been doing work on many old teams, players, etc., do you have anything to add to those articles (such as later rounds or information on some of those players)? Also, do you have anything to add to Ossie Schectman articles? CHRIS 18:05, 6 August 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
I haven't had a chance to look. I am working on another project right now (indexing a book), and have no time for Hoopedia. In a few weeks, I will take a look. Can't add anything to Ossie Schectman, but it doesn't need anything.
THanks for adding a Jake Fendley photo.
my name is peter schectman...my dad is ossie schectman...we have noticed that a picture next to my father's hoopedia article bio is not of him but of inky lautman of the philadelphia spahs could you instruct me as to how to replace that photo with one of my dad's that we would like.. the photo i wish inserted is with the following caption below it... "image page source http//blogs.daily bulletin.com/tohoffrth/archives/2008/11 jewish-hoops.html could you inset advice into this page......thank you
I recently found a category titled School Players. So far, there are only two people on the list. Can you help me find some more people who belong in this category? Thanks. CHRIS 17:29, 6 September 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Actually I am not thrilled with the category School, and I am thinking of eliminating it. I guess I am keeping it, with the hope that more can be done with it. Any schools that make it are usually extremely amateur contributors tauting their school or themselves. The problem is finding people who would belong in the category, and frankly I don't see it coming.
Hey, you said u like the boxes for the players, thnk i did a lot of tweaking to get it right. If u got any ideas for other boxes for teams, schools, events etc. let me know - User:Jdh87
I think you have your hands full right now with the hundreds of players...
Is it possible you make the news section of the Main Page go under This Day In Basketball History? Thanks. CHRIS 17:09, 10 September 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Making a news section on the Main Page is beyond my skill set. I took a look at it, and couldn't figure out what to do.
Nevermind, I did not realize what you were asking. Hey, it looks great, and it is in a good location, at the top.
Did the 76ers start as a BRAINSTORMING or BARNSTORMING team? CHRIS 19:45, 14 September 2009 (EDT)CHRIS
Barnstorming, been fixed
its been fixed
Hi, I am making a research about Ken Sears and found out that he played for the San Francisco Olympic Club in 1955 and found your articel about the Olympic Club. You have written about the 1955 AAU Tournament in this article and linked a person named Ron Sears, didn't you mean Ken Sears? And can you maybe show the references for the 1955 AAU Tournament? Max12Max
Will get to your queries tonight regarding mu sources. I suspect that Ken Sears was what was meant, and that I either copied the name wrong or my source was incorrect.
Max: Thank you for catching the Ken Sears error. I had mistakenly made the name Ron Sears. I got the information from Adolph H. Grundman's THe Golden Age of Amateur Basketball.\
Re Main Page
No i dont have access to edit the main page, sorry but ill be glad to help u with anything else - User:Jdh87
Thanks, I'll try Chris, but I suspect he does not have access either. Real problem.
This article needs to be deleted as its just self promotion thanks User:Jdh87
Did it. Sorry for the late responce. CHRIS 14:33, 14 February 2011 (EST)CHRIS
Thanks for taking care of that. Just wondering. I have certain powers, such as the ability to delete articles. I do not know what category of adm that makes me. Do you have the power to unlock certain articles? Do I? Because some that are locked have errors in them and need to be corrected, or that the links need to be updated or even added.
I have not been on as much as I used to, so again I apologize for the late responce. You can email Mark Sutton-Smith. His email is email@example.com. He should be able to help you out.
Thanks, CHRIS 12:20, 26 February 2011 (EST)CHRIS
Best, RD Thanks
Do you if bureaucrat rights here? I'd be interested in sysop/rollback rights, as I am quite in to editing this wiki. Also, the templates I've tried to create don't work for some reason, and I know I'm making them correctly. ThanksHockeyben 20:56, 24 March 2011 (EDT)
I cannot get you sysop/rollback rights, because I don't think i have the authority, let alone the ability. Check with Chris to see who to go to. I do have qualms on your approach, however. I'd like to see more of an encyclopedia style entry rather than a mere listing, because such "articles" are not worth the trip. RDpruter
These player articles ex:Glynn Myrick are late round draft picks, and practically nothing is known about their careers. I put all the info I could find in the infobox. Seems hoosierhistorian has the required user level to promote users. I'll ask him later.Hockeyben 22:45, 26 March 2011 (EDT)
Blocking Hahaha, etc
Wish I could, but I can't. Don't have the powers. If you notice, he has switched identities, so it rarely works to block someone, if all he has to do is change identities. I think he is mentally ill. Rdpruter
Please protect Phog Allen. The vandalism Is getting outta control. You can block account creation for the ip address as the vandal seems to have multiple accounts. -HB
Wish I could protext Phog Allen. I do not know how to lock down the article. Wish I could. We just have to keep changing it back until that asshole gets tired of being an asshole. Rdpruter
I'm an admin on many wikis, Just follow these steps for page protection. The Vandal just did it again, and I'm getting sick of it.
- Switch your skin to Monobook
- On the Monobook page tabs, Look over to the 6th or 7th tab
- Select Protect
- Change protection level to admins only
- Press save, and the page is protected so only sysops can edit
I'll clean up Mason Plumlee now. Hope this helps -HB
You lost me on "switch your skin to Monobook." What is that? The only thing on my thing that makes me an admin is that it has provided a delete tab. RDpruter.
Go to your preferences tab. Once in your preferences, click the skin tab, Find the monobook skin, check the box next to it, and press the save button. You will the be in Monobook skin, and should be able to see the protect tab. --Hockeyben 18:26, 29 March 2011 (EDT)
Skins and things
Yep, I went to preferences, and clicked the skin tab. Found the monobook skin, selected it as my preference and clicked save. Did not see any protect tab. I think I am the lowest level of admins and thus can only do a couple of things. Thanks for your help. Rdpruter
- that's unfortunate. I think you're only an administrator, you need sysop powers to do that. Pls block haha and his alternate accounts , tho.Hockeyben 19:50, 29 March 2011 (EDT)
The vandalism on phog Allen is getting way outta control. Please block haha and all his duplicate accounts. -HB
Chris has protected phog Allen. He has sysop and admin powers, you just have admin powers. Anyway, I'm glad that this page is protected. -HB
Yep, I now remember that Chris has sysop. I honestly think that some of these assholes are seriously mentally ill. The stupidity of their vandalism is astonishing. Rdpruter
Nah, I've seen worse vandalism on other wikis. The vandal(s) seem to have gone away now. --Hockeyben 11:59, 31 March 2011 (EDT)
hey can u delete Image:100 0837edited.jpg it is just self promotion
I appreciate your concern, im just tryin to categorize. Is there any articles that need to be worked on, or any tempaltes that need to be created ?
I would suggest that you uncategorize your new category, American Basketball Players, as too broad. Besides it makes no sense to have that category for one person. Are you willing to extend it to the thousands of basketball players in Hoopedia? Rdpruter
i started a project if u can help i'd appreciate it and also i could use some input on ideas, thanks -User:Jdh87
What is the project? If it has to do with current basketball stuff, that is not my interest.
Consider it done
Consider it done, Rdp
Re:Main Page Access
unfortunately i'm not an admin and don't have main page access.
Unfortunately, all I can do is delete them.
sorry, i'm just tryin to make it right. I want to put former or retired since and there is no need for college in there since most professional players come out of college. any other concerns let me know. Thanks -- User:Jdh87
Main Page access
no unfortunately i still don't, sorry - Jdh87
There has been a lot of spam coming onto this site recently. Do you have any idea what we can do to limit this? Thanks.
Also, I haven't been on here too often lately, I'll try to edit more often.
CHRIS 02:52, 28 June 2012 (EDT)CHRIS
I emailed Mark Sutton-Smith, who is an IT director for NBA.com. Hopefully he can help us. And I will see if I can fix the front page for you.
CHRIS 23:59, 29 June 2012 (EDT)CHRIS
Pages to be deleted =
I have started a page List of pages for deletion. if u see an spam pages add them so chris can delete them, thanks - Jdh87
